Purpose: To assess and certify that hand hygiene stations are positioned at all Pre-Contact Entry Points within a facility, interrupting pathogen transfer before first personal contact occurs.

HOW TO USE THIS CHECKLIST

Walk the facility section by section. For each station location, assess:

• Present — Station exists and is stocked
• Absent — No station; placement required for compliance
• Needs Relocation — Station exists but is positioned post-contact rather than pre-contact
• Notes — Condition, visibility, signage, accessibility

Score each section. A facility achieves TwoStepHandWash™ Certified status when all Required stations are Present and compliant.

SECTION 1: RESTROOMS

All restroom assessments apply universally across every facility type.

Standard: Pre-Contact Station Required OUTSIDE every restroom entrance.

Rationale: Hands carry transient pathogens from all prior public surfaces. The pre-contact station intercepts contamination before the individual touches clothing, waistband, undergarments, or tissue inside the restroom.

Station Specification Standards

For a station to count as compliant, it must meet all of the following:

• Positioned before the point of contact (not mid-path or post-contact)
• Stocked and operational at time of assessment
• Accessible — not blocked by furniture, signage, or traffic flow
• Clearly visible from the approach path
• Signage present indicating Pre-Contact hygiene purpose
• ADA accessible (mounted at compliant height where required)
